BIRDING ADVENTURES TV NEWS
Greetings,
The BATV crew have just returned from filming in Suriname, South America. What a great - and highly under-rated - birding destination. With a greater percentage of intact primary forest than any other nation on earth, Suriname is a birder's paradise. Highlights of our trip included all 5 occuring toucan species, Ornate Hawk-eagle hunting, Gray-winged Trumpeters and Black Curassow.
Special thanks to the staff of Berg-en-dal Resort and the kind people of Insel Air for getting us there and back safely.
This week on Fox you can catch the re-run of the Sun Parakeet episode from Guyana.
Stay tuned for another Birding Adventure!

SUN PARAKEETS!
Sun Parakeets are beautiful parrots in the Aratinga genus. They are medium-sized brightly coloured parrots native to northeastern South America. The adult male and female are similar in appearance, with predominantly golden-yellow plumage and orange-flushed underparts and face. Sun Parakeets, sometimes also called Sun Conures, are commonly kept in aviculture. The species is endangered, threatened by loss of habitat and trapping for the pet trade.
They are very easy to spot as their golden plumage stands out brightly against the green backdrop of the forest. Sadly the numbers of this parrot have declined drastically in the wild predominantly due to the cage-bird trade. Perhaps only several hundred remain the wild today and Guyana is probably the best spot to reliably view these birds.
Catch this week's Sun Parakeet show on your local Fox SportsNet channel or affiliate this Saturday morning.
