We have just returned
from a wonderful trip to Peru, hosted by the Inkaterra family of hotels
and also by PromPeru. We covered the inaugural 6-day Birding Rally
Challenge, the first birding rally of its kind to take place in this
bird-rich country.

PERU - ITS NOT JUST FOR THE BIRDS!

Late November saw the kick-off of the inaugural Peru Birding Rally Challenge, the ground-breaking 6-day rally where teams from around the world compete to see the most species of birds.
The rally was a
resounding success with nearly 500 species of birds recorded by the
winning team, The LSU Tigrisomas from the USA. The Forest Falcons from
the UK came in second place, a mere three birds behind the winning team.
You can watch the full episode on the rally on the Pursuit Channel in
early January 2013.
The second Peruvian
Episode will feature the birds and wildlife surrounding our host hotels,
Inkaterra's Reserva Amazonica and Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel. We were
very fortunate to come across some of Peru's most desirable mammals like
Giant River Otters and Spectacled Bears, along with a staggering
diversity of avian life from Andean Cock-of-the-rocks to Sunbitterns,
Curl-crested Aracaris and Band-tailed Manakins.
